IAE North Seeking Fiber Optic Gyro system (FOG) is capable of operating from 0-60⁰ degrees inclination angle with azimuth of 360 degrees. It has considerably improved the performance of wellbore surveying. The FOG provides extremely precise rotational rate information, in part because of its lack of cross-axis sensitivity to vibration, acceleration, and shock. Unlike the classic spinning-mass gyroscope, the FOG has no moving parts and doesn’t rely on inertial resistance to movement. Hence, it is the most reliable instrument in comparison to the mechanical gyroscope.
